About the Club
The inaugural meeting which founded the club took place in 1978 and in May 1980 the green at Priestmans Lane was opened. It quickly became involved in the bowling scene in the Ryedale and Scarborough area and has continued as an active village sports club ever since.
In 2022 the club applied for charitable status, for which we were acccepted therefore, from 2023, we are now known as Thornton Le Dale Bowls Club CIO (Charitable incorporated Organisation)

The club, affiliated to Bowls England and Yorkshire Bowling Association, has a membership of about thirty most of whom are active and regular bowlers. It caters for a wide range of bowling activities and members can find the level of involvement which suits them and their lifestyles. For the competitive bowlers there are an evening league team, two veterans’ teams and a mixed pairs team all competing in Ryedale and Scarborough leagues. In addition there is a full calendar of competitions and friendly games played amongst club members. Each month of the season also has fixtures against touring teams, open competitions, staged by the club, and County competitions, hosted by the club.
